Poetry — Taking a day for myself in the city

the sky yawned
and swallowed up the city
a mist
soft like dandelion fur
fell on my cheeks
fog caressed the buildings
with a gentle hand
and I got lost in the grey hues
a croissant and a cafe au lait
in the museum cafe
paired together like colors
in a Rothko painting
two light browns
warm
one flecked with milk
the other luscious in butter
two halves of one whole
like the parts of myself
